Ahhh Santorini. Sometimes I have to remember that popular places are popular for a reason. Though I much prefer to see quieter, and maybe slightly less traveled destinations, mixing in the “must sees” creates a well rounded itinerary. Santorini was the only island that we made sure to stop at. We stayed a few nights in the village Emporio. It was much more affordable and since we rented a car we were able to scout out different areas of the volcano. Yup thats right, Santorini is actually the rim of a volcano. Oia, sits right on the inside edge and you can take boat rides to see the center.
After spending a few nights outside of the main sites, we splurged and stayed a night overlooking the Caldera (volcano crater) at the Delfini Villas. We were hoping for sunset views but the angle of the sunset this time of year meant we should have stayed around the bend and a little more north. The sky still lit up beautifully.
Santorini is just as stunning as you could imagine but I do recommend renting a car and seeing other stunning areas this island has to offer along with Oia. Milos was our final stop in Greece and will conclude my greek photo dumps. You can subscribe to my page to get an email for when it is posted.
